What makes The Locksmith’s Secret magical realism?
I call The Locksmith’s Secret magical realism, but I could also call it a metaphysical romance or a cosy mystery or a steampunk murder mystery, so why call it magical realism? Death of an Author: A short fun film all authors and readers should watch.
The relationship between an author and his or her characters is something that I explore in my book Worlds Within Worlds. I suspect that I’m not the only author who feels that their characters are so real that they wonder if they have a life of their own. This short film, Death of an Author, explores this idea in a very amusing way. I hope you enjoy it.

What does a metaphysical romance look like?
THE LOCKSMITH’S SECRET – a metaphysical romance mystery/magical realism with a steampunk thread. Ella’s locksmith boyfriend Jamie seems to be her perfect match—at least until a death in the family calls him back to England. While he’s gone, Ella discovers he’s hiding something so astounding that it completely changes her perception of him and his place in her world. While Jamie struggles with family responsibilities, Ella’s steampunk murder mystery is developing a life of its own, raising disturbing memories of her time as a striptease artist and a past life as a sexually abused Italian nun. She also dreams of an ephemeral city, where she seeks to unravel the locksmith’s secret and find the key that opens a door to other realities. All these, together with a lost brother, a desperate mother, a demanding cat, and a struggle to live up to Buddhist ideals, weave together in a rich tapestry…
Book cover reveal for The Locksmith’s Secret
Here it is folks, the cover for The Locksmith’s Secret, the long awaited sequel to Worlds Within Worlds. If you read any of the first draft excerpts here about the ephemeral city, you’ll recognise the imagery. I haven’t written the blurb yet, but this will give you the general idea: Ella’s locksmith boyfriend appears to be her perfect match until a death in the family calls him back to England, and Ella discovers that Jamie is hiding something so big that when revealed it completely changes her perception of him and his place in her world. While Jamie’s struggles with family responsibilities, Ella remembers more of her life as a stripper, discovers a past life as an Italian nun in the 17th century, dreams of an ephemeral city in the stars and writes a steampunk mystery. These different story threads deal with the same themes but from different angles – prejudice, women’s rights, abuse, identity as it relates to a sense of belonging,…
Is living in peace and clarity possible?
Is there anyone who wouldn’t like to live in peace and clarity? Imagine going through every moment of your day feeling peaceful inside, no matter what happens outside. Imagine having a clear mind no matter how busy you are and how crazy your life is. Imagine having no stress even when facing stressful situations. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Does it sound like paradise to you? It is. Paradise is not outside. It’s inside. Happiness is too. Inside, I mean. Is there anyone who wouldn’t choose to live their life that way if they thought they could? But is living in peace and clarity possible? Does it sound somewhat unobtainable? So far out of reach that you don’t start on the path that will lead to it? Or does it just seem really difficult? I totally get that. Life can be overwhelming sometimes and peace can seem a very long way away.…
