Worlds Within Worlds gets a cover tweek
Worlds Within Worlds has had a cover tweek. Just a few touches, but they make a big differences. For the reasons why and the lesson for authors to take away from this, please visit this post on the topic at AIA Publishing blog. Here’s the new version. It’s the same as the old one, but much stronger. If you want to see both, have a look here. What do you think? I think it looks much better, I just wish I’d listened to Rose when she first did it. She told me it would look better if I …
Music Makes Everything Epic
Music Makes Everything Epic is another delightful video made by my daughter Rose of Velvet Wings Media. It gave me a laugh and I hope it does the same for you.
How about books for Christmas? Or for something really different maybe …
Books make great Christmas presents. I am, of course, talking about the old fashioned kind. All my books and all AIA Publishing books are available in paperback. If books seem a little too old hat or ordinary or not quite right for you, you could try something really different and visit Tahlias Masks and Steampunk Accessories.
The Classic Defensive Maneuver – do you do it?
The classic defensive maneuver is classic because it’s an automatic reaction many, if not most, people have when their work is criticised. It’s only those who have more self-awareness than usual or who have discovered that reacting this way does no good at all, and, in fact, often causes us to act in ways that when seen with hindsight are downright embarrassing, or, at the least, make us appear rather immature and inexperienced. The classic defensive maneuver seems absolutely right to the person offended by the opinion that causes the reaction. When in the grip of it, the sufferer sees nothing other than their own perspective, a perspective created by one single aim: to prove that one’s work is not as the critic says it is. When in the grip of the classic defensive manoeuvre we must, at all costs, retain our sense that the art work we have laboured…
Another award for a book I edited.
Spiderworld by Richard Bunning, a book I edited, has been awarded an Awesome Indies Seal of Excellence. Well done Richard and well done to me! It’s a terrific book, by the way, and deserves to be read. Please consider buying it and tell anyone you know who likes thought-provoking sci fi with a touch of metaphysics all about it. It’ll be out on paperback soon too. FYI. I’m not involved in Awesome Indies decisions on books that I write or edit – the awards would be meaningless if I did. You can read the post and the review of it on the Awesome Indies blog, just click through.
Success for a couple of my authors & some nice feedback for me.
One of the books I edited and Published with AIA Publishing won a fairly major award. Intelligent Design: Revelations was honored with the Silver award in the category of science fiction in the INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards for the best indie books of 2014. I’m pretty proud of this acheivement. Details here. https://indiefab.forewordreviews.com/books/intelligent-design/ And Another book that I edited scored an agent and she said this about my editing skills: “My name is Caroline Oliveira and I am David Homick’s literary agent. When I first met David, he spoke extraordinarily of you. Particularly, your editing and teaching skills along with your generous time spent to develop and enhance his writing style. After reading his novel, I was highly impressed with the story’s concept as it set the stage for an unfolding original and compelling story. Also, to my surprise it did not need additional editing. I know “A Lifetime Last Night” is going to…

Steampunk characters are starting to come to life.
If you follow my Facebook page, you’ll know that I’ve been making a lot of full-faced masks inspired by steampunk aesthetics. I’ve also been giving them names because, they are, of course, characters. Gradually I’m getting a range of characters that might eventually appear in a story. My latest mask is a pirate.
