Life is always changing. It’s a fact that we sometimes, if not often, forget. We tend to live our lives as if we’ll always feel the way we do now – always be this poor, or this sick or this angry or sad – but the truth is that everything changes all the time. Everything. Our moods for sure, but also things we normally consider relatively permanent, like the seat upon which we sit, or that mountain that rises above our home; they change constantly only it’s on a microscopic scale, so we tend not to notice. We notice the big things, like a tree falling, a roof being blown off, a flood that washes away a whole town, that sort of thing, and of course, death.
But this post isn’t about death, I’ve left writing about that for my Substack publication, Tahlia Newland – From the Heart. This post is about changes in the direction in my professional life (i.e.. writing, editing and publishing) that will impact what you read on this blog.
The Changing Author/Editor Angle on this Blog
This website was set up originally for myself as an author. When I became an editor, I changed the nature of the blog posts to serve authors rather than those who might read my books. Then this year, I returned to publishing my own books and I wrote things here that related to the books I’m publishing now and the associated art. I also wanted to bring all parts of my creative and personal life together in one place. But I wondered if some of the topics I wanted to write about were appropriate for a website where I need to attract editing clients. A girl has to eat, right? I don’t want to put off potential editing clients with my personal contemplations. (One 3 star review of one of my early books said that it was ‘too spiritual’ so it can be an issue for some folk). So perhaps, I thought, two baskets might be better than one. And maybe everything I want to write about is just too big to fit in one basket!
On top of that, I’ve come to the end of a series of videos I was making for my Alkira Publishing YouTube channel on novel writing, and the book that goes with that series of videos is due out just before Christmas. My plan was always to follow that with a similar series and book on memoir writing. And the time for that has arrived. A new angle on writing.
Of course I’ve been editing and publishing memoirs for 10 years now, but I want to do more than just help edit and publish people’s memoirs, I want to help them write from their heart to help them heal and inspire themselves and the world. And that’s what I’ll be writing about on this blog until something changes again.
Writing to help me make sense of myself and my world is something I’ve been doing my whole life. All my writing was therapeutic for me, even my fiction, and I’ve helped many authors shape their life memories into words that brought insight to themselves as well as their readers. Also I’m doing a course on writing as therapy to give me a bit more of a basis to draw on for that side of things.
Substack and Here: Different Topics
I’ll still write more personal things, but I’m going to put them on my Substack, so if you want more on neurodivergence and the psycho-spiritual side of life, then please do subscribe there (it’s free) to get those articles sent to your inbox. And stick around here for posts aimed at writers and readers, covering both the therapeutic side of writing and the craft of memoir writing. I will still let you know when I share a new music video on YouTube, of course.
Posts here will be less often (maybe one a month), and I’m planning for those posts to include inspiration to get you writing from your heart.
So if you have ever thought about writing your memoir, or just writing to help you navigate life, this is the place for you.
My Mission
The aim of helping people write from the heart is the same as with the introspective art, of course, still Psychemagination, still helping people to explore their psyche/self/life though their imagination, just in this case through words. All that’s needed is a notebook, a pencil and rubber, and some time and space for yourself.
