Review: Crave by Melissa Darnell
Title: Crave SubTitle: The Clann Author: Melissa Darnell Publisher: HarlequinTEEN Pub Date: 10/25/2011 Category: YA paranormal Romance Crave is another fabulous title from Harlequin Teen, a richly written romance about forbidden love. Crave follows a common plot line in YA books - teen discovers previously hidden paranormal talents and falls in love with someone their new talent endangers – yet even with its Romeo and Juliet overtones, the story still has surprises and never feels like anything I’ve read before. The blurb Savannah Colbert has never known why she’s so hated by the kids of the Clann. Nor can she deny her instinct to get close to Clann golden boy Tristan Coleman. Especially when she recovers from a strange illness and the attraction becomes nearly irresistible. It’s as if he’s a magnet, pulling her gaze, her thoughts, even her dreams. Her family has warned her to have nothing to do with him, or any members of the Clann. But when Tristan is suddenly everywhere she … [Read more...]

Title: Wayfinder Author: C.E. Murphy Publisher: Random House Publishing Group http://www.randomhouse.com/book/118852/wayfinder-by-ce-murphy Imprint: Del Rey Pub Date: 09/06/2011 Category: Adult fantasy but suitable for older young adults. Wayfinder is a unique and engaging story set in a vibrant world and brought to life through evocative writing. I particularly loved the imagery. Blurb Lara Jansen is a truthseeker, gifted-or cursed-with the magical ability to tell honesty from lies. Once she was a tailor in Boston, but now she has crossed from Earth to the Barrow-lands, a Faerie world embroiled in a bloody civil war between Seelie and Unseelie. Armed with an enchanted and malevolent staff which seeks to bend her to its dark will, and thrust into a deadly realm where it's hard to distinguish friend from foe, Lara is sure of one thing: her love for Dafydd apCaerwyn, the Faerie prince who sought her help in solving a royal murder and dousing the flames of war before they consumed … [Read more...]
Review – Blood Rock by Anthony Francis
Title: Blood Rock SubTitle: Book Two, THE SKIN DANCER SERIES Author: Anthony Francis Publisher: Bell Bridge Books Pub Date: 08/16/2011 Category: Urban Fantasy Blood Rock, like its prequel Frost Moon – my review here - is the best of urban fantasy, gritty, creative, engaging and with a unique premise – graffiti that kills. Francis creates a world where not only are witches, werekin ( eg werewolves, werebears, weretigers, werestags and so on) and vampires known, but also tattoos can be magic. When inked on an ordinary person, they can move, sparkle and maybe lift off, but when inked on a skindancer like Dakota Frost, they have enormous magical power. Dakota is a magical tattooist and the epitome of a kick-ass heroine and this time her talents are required to deal with Graffiti that comes to life in the dark heart of Atlanta's oldest cemetery and kills her friend, and one of the city's best loved vampires, before her eyes. And this is just the first of many. The graffiti ends up … [Read more...]

Review -Thomas World by Richard Cox
Title: Thomas World Author: Richard Cox Publisher: Night Shade Pub Date: 09/06/2011 Category: ADULT: Science Fiction & Fantasy (also suitable for older teens) Thomas World is an intriguing mind twister and if you liked the way the movie, The Matrix made you question your reality, you’ll probably love this one book as much as I did. It explores what happens when the borders of reality start bleeding through the edges, challenging our perceptions of the universe. Thomas Phillip’s world is becoming very strange and he’s wondering if he’s going crazy. We wonder too. Is this guy just seriously paranoid? Initially, it seems that way, but as the story progresses it becomes clear that the hallucinations, the strange feelings of being watched, of having done this or having been there before, the sound of violins playing and numbers being recited aren’t without basis. Just as Thomas wants to work out what’s going on, so do we and this is what keeps us reading as inexplicable … [Read more...]
