I have a publisher!

August 13, 2014 by Tahlia Newland

It’s official. My books are now published by S & H Publishing. If you take a look at the S & H website, you’ll see that they’re a small publisher, so why did I agree to let them publish my books—didn’t I have all that together already? Yes and no. I had my books out, but I felt I was swimming upstream, trying to sell the damn things. It’s really nice to know that now someone else is trying to help me do it. I never set out to self-publish, and I only did so because after my agent and I parted ways, I’d been waiting for two years and I couldn’t be bothered going through the whole thing again with the smaller publishers—the query letters, the rejection letters, the months waiting, and for what? Maybe for nothing. And I wanted to see how it would go. I’m glad I did publish myself because I learned enough to be able to help others publish their books, but I felt alone in the big bad world of book marketing. Not anymore. Will I sell more books? I hope so, but even if not, just … [Read more...]

April 22, 2013 by Tahlia Newland

Yes, Stalking Shadows , book two of the Diamond Peak series is out now, and the first book in the series Lethal Inheritance is on sale (on Kindle only) for $0.99 until the end of the month. (Don't wait for it to be free because it aint gonna happen, ever.)  The book is beautifully formatted by yours truly and is a better book than the first one, ( I didn't have to spend so many words on world building.) Now, about STALKING SHADOWS 'A well written, engaging and gripping story'. Clive S Johnson, reviewer for http://awesomeindies.net In this, the second book in the Diamond Peak series, you'll find adventure, romance and  'a unique and notable new approach to magical powers.' Ripped from the safety of our world and thrust into a strange hidden realm on a quest to save her mother, Ariel aims to confront the Master Demon, but first she must defeat Amic, the bodyguard that’s trying to kill her. In order reach the safe haven of Sheldra, she must pass through dangerous terrain and battle … [Read more...]

Do you remember ‘Lethal Inheritance’? It’s happening at last.

October 4, 2012 by Tahlia Newland

Lethal Inheritance is the book I started this blog for just after I found an agent  to represent it. It's also the book that inspired me to start writing., which means that it's very close to my heart.  Some of you have followed my journey for the last two years, some of you have only started following recently, but the great news is that I've decided to take my writing career fully into my own hands. My Indie publishing company Catapult Press is publishing it  on ebook this month. At this stage there are no plans to produce a paperback, so if you haven't got an ereader yet, it's time to take the plunge. The structural edit was completed ages ago; my wonderful editor Krisi Keley, author of the  extraordinary, literary fantasy On the Soul of a Vampire Series has completed the copy edit; the proof reader is doing his thing and the cover is ready, so we expect it to be out by the 20th of this month. And,  yes, I AM REALLY EXCITED. So what's it about? It's YA/adult contemporary fantasy … [Read more...]

The big F word

February 11, 2012 by Tahlia Newland

It’s a nasty word that F word. No one likes to hear it, especially if it’s being applied to them, but sometimes we just have to face facts and admit that we have failed. Of course, we can’t fail unless we have some measure of what success means, and the higher our idea of success, the easier it is to fail. Aiming high is a risk, but if we don’t aim high, we may be limiting ourselves. Failure is subjective. One person’s idea of success may be another’s idea of failure, so on a mental level, we can sidestep it quite easily by changing our idea of success, but on an emotional level, it’s harder to wriggle away from. Warning: the rest of this post may be uncomfortable for some readers. Last night I felt like a failure and it was a strange feeling, kind of liberating in a way because once you’ve failed there’s no where lower to go, but it’s also a heavy depressing feeling especially if you consider that the last five years of your life just might have been a waste of time. Generally, we … [Read more...]
