The Magan Mask of Power appears in my book Stalking Shadows, book two of the Diamond Peak Series (a YA fantasy). The heroine of the story must wear it to prove to a Magan (Magicians) lord that she has the power to defeat the master demon. Those who wear the mask without that kind of personal power go insane. I made the base of the mask around the time I wrote the book back in 2013, but I only finished it recently. Would you be able to wear the Magan Mask of Power? It’s designed so you can. This is it. There will never be another one like it, and it's only USD $152.57 or AUD $199 (craftspeople work for a pittance, but I meditate while I do it, so that gives it an ulterior purpose.) Buy Now I've also added a lovely new shell plaque to my masks for sale if you'd like one of my creations for less than $20. … [Read more...]
A great fantasy read: The Shadow of the Revenaunt, book 2, Zihaen by Paul E. Horseman
‘Zihaen’ is the second in ‘The Shadow of the Revenaunt’ series by Paul E. Horsman. In this book the author seems to have found his stride in the same way that his central character Ghyll has, and I hadn’t read very far before I realised that, unlike book one to which I gave four stars, this was a five star book. There is a surety and a confidence in the writing and the world building is excellent. I truly felt as if these characters and this world existed somewhere beyond the author’s imagination. The plot is much less predictable than book one and even has some surprises, and the addition of a mystery character adds another dimension. The balance of characterisation and action is perfect, and the characters are all developing as they should. The only thing that didn’t quite work for me is the speed with which Ghyll finds a wife and falls in love, and the book lost half a star because of it. By having no story around how they get together and no time to develop the relationship … [Read more...]
Fantasy Review: A Cast of Stones by Patrick W. Carr
Title: A Cast of Stones Author: Patrick W. Carr Publisher: Baker Publishing Group. Bethany House Publishers A Cast of Stones is a richly told tale of an old world Kingdom where lots are drawn from balls carved in wood or stone to determine the answer to questions. Those with the talent to carve and draw the lots are called readers. Not only are they rare, but they are also being killed off as the old King draws closer to death without an heir. Who will be the next King? This is the question everyone wants to know. This is an excellent book with a unique idea, a well structured plot, and nothing extraneous or missing. The atmosphere of the land is well-rendered, the action sequences immediate and the characters complex and well-drawn. But the real beauty of this book is the main character's development from a drunkard youth to a fine man. Errol is a simple, honest character who hides his pain in an ale barrel, but when another reader discovers that Errol is also a reader, he … [Read more...]

What’s it all about?
If you've been reading this blog for a while, you should have noticed that I've just had a young adult novel published. I've had a lot of publicity for it on other sites, but I actually haven't gone into a lot of detail here, so today I've intervewed myself to give you a good idea of what You Can't Shatter Me is all about. Okay, so what's it about? It’s about Carly, a sixteen year old girl who wants to write her own life and cast herself as a superhero, but when she stands up to a bully, the story gets out of her control. Dylan, a karate-trained nerd who supports her stand, turns out to be a secret admirer, and Justin, the bully, makes Carly his next victim. While romance blossoms, Dylan faces attacking words, an unreliable movie director, a concrete habit that requires smashing, and an unruly Neanderthal. Meanwhile, the bully’s increasing harassment forces Carly to deal with flying hooks, unflushable cowpats, and deadly dragons. An old hippie shows her an inner magic that’s supposed … [Read more...]
