Blog Tour – last two days and wrap up

December 22, 2012 by Tahlia Newland

The last two days of the  Lethal Inheritance blog tour are an  interview at Romance Books that has some very good questions in it http://romancebookie.blogspot.com/2012/12/interview-with-tahlia-newland-lethal.html and an excerpt & giveaway  at  A bit of a Dash. You can read chapter one over there. http://abitofdash.blogspot.com.au/2012/12/lethal-inheritance-tour-excerpt-and.html Do pop over and give these wonderful bloggers a bit of support.  Tour summary Overall, the tour was a highly successful venture not only because all the reviews were good and some downright excellent, but also because only 2 out of 22 didn't post. (I hope they will still do their reviews later)  Authors are totally dependent on the good will of the bloggers who host them for tours, and I am very grateful to the bloggers who helped me out on this. The best reviews ( ie well written and informative) are numbers 1, 2, 3, 5, and 19. Number 19 is the best. If you haven't read it, please do. It's totally … [Read more...]

Lethal Inheritance has it all- rich, detailed world building, insanely realistic characters, and a kick ass fantasy plot. Tahlia has a gift for writing. Her writing style is so clear and descriptive, and her pacing is impeccable. I want to read the second book right away. This series has "favorite" written all over it for me!’ Book Briefs. ‘Newland had my attention, possibly spellbound, held down by the demons, to the very last words.’ Richard Bunning, … [Read more...]

Do you remember ‘Lethal Inheritance’? It’s happening at last.

October 4, 2012 by Tahlia Newland

Lethal Inheritance is the book I started this blog for just after I found an agent  to represent it. It's also the book that inspired me to start writing., which means that it's very close to my heart.  Some of you have followed my journey for the last two years, some of you have only started following recently, but the great news is that I've decided to take my writing career fully into my own hands. My Indie publishing company Catapult Press is publishing it  on ebook this month. At this stage there are no plans to produce a paperback, so if you haven't got an ereader yet, it's time to take the plunge. The structural edit was completed ages ago; my wonderful editor Krisi Keley, author of the  extraordinary, literary fantasy On the Soul of a Vampire Series has completed the copy edit; the proof reader is doing his thing and the cover is ready, so we expect it to be out by the 20th of this month. And,  yes, I AM REALLY EXCITED. So what's it about? It's YA/adult contemporary fantasy … [Read more...]

Watch out for over-editing.

July 20, 2012 by Tahlia Newland

I've read a couple of books that I thought were over-edited. One had the feel of something the publisher might have asked for  10,000 words cut out of to suit the usual less than 100,000 words. It had big gaps in the plot & character growth  as if chunks of the story had been taken out. Another one had the blandness of something  worked over with every rule in the book in mind. There was nothing 'wrong' with the writing if you looked at it technically, but it had no pizzazz. I remember feeling that perhaps it lost its individuality in the push for perfection. In our efforts to make our writing the best it can be, we run the risk of losing the rawness or freshness of our original vision. After years of working on something, it's easy to lose that spark under a pile of prunings. I know, because I think that's what's happened with Lethal Inheritance. To fill you in. I got an agent for my YA fantasy novel Lethal Inheritance back in 2010. She asked for some changes and the removal of … [Read more...]
