The cat diaries: Second CAT WEDNESDAY

The cat diaries: Second CAT WEDNESDAY

Earlier this year, my daughter Rose and I  attended a two week meditation retreat and left our cute Burmese kitten Prince George with my husband Chris who is unused to having to attend to his needs and keep him entertained. During this time, Chris wrote the Cat Dairies and emailed them to us each day. This is the final in the series, and it's written from George's perspective. 2015-01-21 Second CAT WEDNESDAY I snuck in at 5am. He was snoring loudly so he didn't notice me creep down under the doona. I think he realised I was there when I snuggled in behind his knees but he was too asleep to kick me out. We both slept in so I didn't have to wake him to get my breakfast. He's always so grumpy when I do that. Lucky I wasn't really hungry though because he gave me that fishy stuff. I didn't eat it till much later, and only because I don't get any bikkies till it's finished. We had expected it to rain but luckily it was sunny and warm so I spent all day outside. Got to … [Read more...]

Cat Stories: Cat Saturday.

Cat Stories: Cat Saturday.

2015-01-17 CAT SATURDAY Now the cat master went and had some highly sugared and caffeinated beverage on Friday evening and was still tossing and turning well after the furry fuzzball was tucked up in his bed. This was fixed with the administration of a small pill which put the cat master well beyond the veil of cognition. However, he must have slept with a dead fish in his mouth as I can see no other reason why furry fuzzball should be sniffing his face at the ungodly hour of 7am. Perhaps he was hungry thought the cat master, and he raised his groggy head and headed for the cat dining room. Obviously it was not the smell of fish that caused the cat to be sniffing his face for the look of utter disdain when served fish for breakfast put paid to that theory. In fact he did not condescend to eat the said fish till nearly lunch time, after a good period of fruitless searching for tasty lizard tails. As the thermometer reached 32 degrees the said moggy went flat on the concrete … [Read more...]

The Cat Diaries. Day one.

February 7, 2015 by Tahlia Newland

The Cat Diaries. Day one.

My daughter Rose and I recently attended a two week meditation retreat and left Prince George with my husband Chris who is unused to having to attend to his needs and keep him entertained. During this time, Chris wrote the Cat Dairies and emailed them to us each day.     2015-01-13 CAT TUESDAY It was lighter & brighter today and you know who was most dissatisfied with out the back and out the front and out the back and out the front... you get the picture. So at 6.30pm I relent & we go for a walk. We get 10 m out of the carport and a small red bellied black snake is wandering along the lawn. Well, you can imagine how excited the little one was. For some reason the snake did not hurry away so it was up onto the shoulders with the furry one and walk in the other direction, his little heart going like a speed train. I have claw marks on my right shoulder! When I put him down the next 5mins was spent dragging the poor little excited beast in the other … [Read more...]

Cute cat blog: more pesky parrot.

Cute cat blog: more pesky parrot.

Pesky parrot. See him on the roof saying nya nyadi nya nya in parrot speak.   I tried to glare him down, but he just looked at me, peeped a couple of times then flew off.     Then he came back when I was trying to have a nap and stared at me through the window.     Lizards are easier. … [Read more...]

WWW #8: Forest Walk with a Cat.

January 15, 2014 by Tahlia Newland

WWW #8: Forest Walk with a Cat.

Ella Takes a Forest Walk with Merlin. This is an unedited  excerpt from World Within Worlds. Read more about Merlin in the book.   My feet pound against the forest floor, hamstrings straining with the sudden burst of speed. Merlin, my cream Burmese, races ahead and I sprint after him, determined to let him have a good run before he gets to the end of his leash and must yank to a stop. He slows a little as the leash tightens, then races ahead again as I catch up. His destination is in sight. I just have to keep up a little while longer, but my heart is pounding now, and I wish I was as fit as I had been when I had danced 6 hours or more a day. He leaps up the rock, paws scrabbling at the top as he fights to pull himself over the edge. He makes it, he always does, then sits above me, looking down with his head cocked, his bright eyes telling me how clever he is. 'Yes, you're a clever boy,' I say. He licks a paw then runs it over his face and behind his ear, … [Read more...]
