Book Review: Matinicus, an island mystery by Darcy Scott
As part of the Celebration of Indie Excellence today I'm sharing my review of Awesome Indie author, Darcy Scott's mystery, Martinicus, and on her site, she is posting her review of my book, You Can't Shatter Me. So pop on over there and see what she has to say about my little offering to the world. Here's what I thought of Matinicus. This is a terrific, well written mystery with richly drawn characters and a surprising and thought provoking conclusion. Matinicus is one of those stories that, like the subtle flavours of an excellent meal, stays with you long after it ends. I found it a little slow to start, but that is probably because I usually read young adult books where major action generally starts early in the story. Here, we take time to get to know Gil, the main character, and the others on the island. They’re a motley crew, lobster fishermen united by their island birth and long family history there. Gil is an outsider, a summer tourist but tolerated because he’s been … [Read more...]
Interview with Emily Devenport, author of Spirits of Glory.
Today I have an interview with one Emily Devenport, of the wonderful authors who have a book listed on the Awesome Indies site. Pop on over and take a look at my post on her site Have the courage to write what you want. Emily Devenport has been published under three pen names in the U.S., the U.K., Italy, and Israel. Her novels are Shade, Larissa, Scorpianne, EggHeads, The Kronos Condition, GodHeads, Broken Time (which was nominated for the Philip K. Dick award), Belarus, Enemies, and (exclusively in ebook) The Night Shifters, Spirits Of Glory, and Pale Lady. Tell me about your book. What is it about? A very scary thing happens to the colonists on the world of Jigsaw: one morning the people in the North wake up and the people in the South are gone. The cities where they lived stand silent and empty, and the highway that led to them has been shattered, as if someone picked it up and cracked it like a whip. Everyone is pretty sure the gods of the South are responsible … [Read more...]
Review: Unspent time by Graham Parke, buy for 99c & enter to win a Kindle Fire or a Kindle Touch
Book title: Unspent Time Author: Graham Parke Publisher: OutskirstPress (pb) Amazon (eb) Genre: Fantasy Warning: reading this novel may make you more attractive and elevate your random luck by about 9.332%* (*These statements have not been evaluated by anyone of consequence.) If this catch line for Unspent Time gives you a giggle, you’re in for a treat. Unspent Time is a collection of short stories and I loved it for its humour, originality and general craziness. If you have a prejudice against short stories, drop it and read this. It’s highly entertaining and the author’s commentary links the stories into a unified and satisfying whole. The blurb is a good indicator of the subject matter, so I’ve included it here. Blurb: From the award winning author of ‘No Hope for Gomez!’ comes a collection of 20 impossible tales. Permeating the cracks between the past and the present is the realm of Unspent Time. Pockets of ‘should have been’s and ‘might have happened’s. Time that was … [Read more...]
