Overload Flux is a combination of science fiction and romance. It’s set on another planet in a universe colonised by humans and involves little in the way of fancy tech until the protagonists get on a space ship. It’s primarily a crime story with a light romance entwined in it. Nothing steamy.
Mairwen has a past she doesn’t want anyone to know about. Mairwen was a hunter, altered and trained by a corporation who would, should they discover that she isn’t dead, want their investment back. So she doesn’t put herself forward, pretending to be a dull night patrol security officer and showing no evidence of enhanced senses or out of the ordinary defensive skills. She takes great care to hide her abilities because getting noticed might cost her her freedom and even her life.
She’s doing well too, until the night she finds two murder victims and Luka comes along to investigate. Luka is employed by the same security firm as Mairwen, and for the first time in her life, Mairwen finds that she’s interested in a man. He’s interested in her as well and as the investigation unfolds, the two draw closer together and Mairwen discovers all kinds of feelings that she’s never had before.
This is another well-written sci fi book with interesting and likeable characters. The author has crafted a fine tale that kept me reading well into the night.
