Do you remember ‘Lethal Inheritance’? It’s happening at last.

October 4, 2012 by Tahlia Newland

Lethal Inheritance is the book I started this blog for just after I found an agent  to represent it. It’s also the book that inspired me to start writing., which means that it’s very close to my heart.  Some of you have followed my journey for the last two years, some of you have only started following recently, but the great news is that I’ve decided to take my writing career fully into my own hands. My Indie publishing company Catapult Press is publishing it  on ebook this month. At this stage there are no plans to produce a paperback, so if you haven’t got an ereader yet, it’s time to take the plunge.

The structural edit was completed ages ago; my wonderful editor Krisi Keley, author of the  extraordinary, literary fantasy On the Soul of a Vampire Series has completed the copy edit; the proof reader is doing his thing and the cover is ready, so we expect it to be out by the 20th of this month. And,  yes, I AM REALLY EXCITED.

So what’s it about?
It’s YA/adult contemporary fantasy novel, the first in a series of four books in the Diamond Peak Series.  The series is a combination quest, love story and surrealistic journey into the mind with flashes of humour, terrifying battles and a mix of fantasy and reality.

The Blurb – this is the full version, there are shorter versions as well

If last night was real, Ariel should be dead. She’s not, but her mother has disappeared, there are bruise marks on her neck and the hideous beast in the photo looks frighteningly familiar.

You can’t send police into a tunnel that doesn’t exist after a villain they can’t see, so when shadow demons kidnap her mother, Ariel has to mount the rescue mission herself. She enters a hidden layer of reality where rocks move, reeds whisper, people fly and sadistic demons who feed on fear are hunting her. If the quirky old guide who’s teaching her to locate and unleash her inner power knows why the slimy beasts are so keen to kill her, he isn’t telling, and she’s not sure she really wants to know.

While she’s battling murderous earth spirits, treacherous terrain, and self doubt, Ariel falls in love with Nick, a Warrior whose gaze sometimes feels like a caress and sometimes like a sledgehammer. If she touches him, she risks being zapped with a bolt of electricity more in character with a downed power-line than a sexy guy. Not only that, but Ariel can’t afford the distraction of an intimate relationship, and he has a girlfriend already. She vows to stay away, but he doesn’t seem to share her reservations. Will she get it all together in time to defeat the demons before they kill her and enslave her mother?

Ariel’s journey challenges her perception, tests her awareness and takes her deep into her heart and mind to confront, and ultimately transcend, her fear and anger.

You must be excited! and it’s great that the times are such that e-book selfpublishing is getting more and more accepted and maintstream. Perfect time to take on your own novel. 🙂

Success and best of wishes to you and your book. I remember when I read the prologue and first chapter – I’m looking forward to the finished product. 🙂
