I’ve been wrestling with something lately—something that cuts right to the heart of who I am. I’m an artist. I’ve always been an artist of one kind or another, be it visual arts, performance art, craft or writing. It’s not just what I do; it’s how I make sense of the world. For years, I poured myself into visual theatre—movement, dance, mime, clowning, music, and making masks, costumes, and props. It was this beautiful, chaotic fusion of everything I loved, and it sustained me for two decades. But life shifted, as it does. I moved into creative arts teaching, then writing, editing and publishing. Through it all, I’ve held onto my visual arts practice, not just because I love it, but because I need it. Seeing Beyond the “Other” When I look around the world today, what I see is a lot of separation. Groups of people who see themselves as distinct from others—different, apart, even opposed. You hear it in the language: “Those people,” “You people.” And with that separation comes fighting. People don’t like others who hold different beliefs, or they harbor resentment toward another race because of some concept they’ve formed about what those people are doing to their society. Whether those ideas are true or not, the emotional reaction is real. But when I look at the world, I don’t see groups of people. I see people. Just people. And what I’ve come to realize is that we are far more alike than we are different. Blue Dragons Revealed | A World Beyond Reality
Fantasy worlds. My imaginative mind has always created them. From the time I was very young, I created imaginary worlds and lived in them every day after my return home from school.
