If you’re looking for awesome fantasy books, then take a look at this one.
Intisar Khanani is an accomplished writer; not only does she write evocative prose that flows beautifully but also her characters are endearing and complex, and her story gripping and unpredictable. Hitomi is a noble soul who risks much to remain true to her ideals. One might sometimes question the wisdom of her decisions, and the results of her actions are not always positive, but she finds a way to make the best out of everything, and as such is a good role model for us all. It’s this unfailing commitment to her moral code—for example, refusing to kill even when it would be expedient to do so—that gives this book its special quality and makes it more than just a good read. It’s inspiring and perhaps a little thought-provoking as well. One might wonder; would I have that same commitment if faced by such dire circumstances?
The Memories of Ash is a worthy sequel to Sunbolt and though you could read this as a stand-alone, I recommend both books to all fantasy fans. I didn’t want to put this one down, and I’m looking forward to reading more about Hitomi.
And I love the cover!
I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
