As an author, editor and publisher, I have long been aware of the need to not contribute to stereotypical views of groups within our society, but as an AI artist, I don’t have the same control I have over my keyboard as I do when I write.
In writing I create every word, letter by letter. In AI art, I tell the machine what I want and it gives me what it thinks I want based on the data it was trained on. And therein lies the problem. The data is biased in favour of a certain look for women. I am constantly battling with the sexualised data set that informs the art generator’s output whenever I request a woman or even a girl in my AI art. Can you see why I didn’t choose the image below for my latest angel video artwork?

I never asked for this kind of sexy pose when I prompted for this angel. And it took me a lot of time to get some angels in a similar style that didn’t have the ‘take me to bed right now’ look. And frankly it’s my pet hate about a lot of what I see in the art form – image after image of stereotypical, barely clad women in poses that belong in 13 yr old boys wet dreams, not on social media sites where young people get them as a steady diet.
In the video below, I explore this dark side of AI art, delving into the issue of how AI art generators tend to stereotype and objectify women. From hyper-realistic portraits to futuristic landscapes, AI-generated art has taken the world by storm. But behind the mesmerizing visuals, AI algorithms are perpetuating harmful gender stereotypes and reducing women to mere objects. Join me in the video as I explore the implications of this emerging technology on our society.
What do you think – is AI art objectifying women, or is it just a reflection of our own biases? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Try asking AI to create an image of a female angel, similar to the angel that visited Jesus’ mother Mary. I think you’ll get a very different image.
Yes of course, because you have directed it to a religious context. There are many ways to get around it. I have many angels that are not like that one. A couple of videos full of them in fact. If you like angels you might enjoy them.

I love your angels – absolutely beautiful. Though, I would love to see more male angels. There are a couple of interesting ones on the TV program, Supernatural.
It would be nice to blame Al for seeing women as sex objects.
But in fact, women seem to prefer it that way – from fashion designers to celebrities.
When accepting awards invariably the concentration is on what a woman is wearing or how little she’s wearing or how transparent are the clothes she’s wearing.
Just check out the Oscar awards for 2024.
Al doesn’t need imagination to come up with what he/she comes out with. It’s all in real life.
Indeed. As I said, it reflects societies biases. The original data came from those kinds of photos. The trouble is that it perpetuates it unless users make an effort not to.
