Thomas and the Tiger Turtle’ by Australian author, Jonathan Gould, and illustrated by John Cardinal is a charming story of a little boy and a turtle who has stripes the same as a tiger. The turtle thinks he is a tiger and Thomas is determined to set him straight, but is actions have unsuspected consequences.
The story has a simple theme, that of accepting who we are and celebrating our uniqueness, and it is told with the skill of an experienced author. Thomas comes alive in a few words, and the turtle’s existential crisis evokes our empathy.
The illustrations are excellent. Not only are they well-done artistically but also they are active enough to assist slower readers. As usual with this publisher, the editing has been done to perfection.
All up this is an excellent story for children aged from 3-6 years old..
5 stars.
