Metaphysical fiction explores to the non-corporeal aspects of human experience. It combines philosophy with supernatural, psychic or mystical elements and is not limited to any one genre. It can appear as easily in contemporary literary fiction as in fantasy. Though many books do fit both categories (eg, my Diamond Peak Series), metaphysical fiction is not always the same as visionary fiction. Visionary fiction requires the central character to be on a spiritual quest; metaphysical fiction does not, but it does delve into their psychic or spiritual life in some way.
I write metaphysical fiction, usually in the form of magical realism (You Can’t Shatter Me) or fantasy (The Diamond Peak Series), but sometimes as a thriller (Worlds Within Worlds) or a romance (A Hole in the Pavement).
