Appreciation: Is it important?

February 17, 2017 by Tahlia Newland

I’m editing a video of an interview with Dr Ian Gawler at the moment for Happiness Hints and appreciation is one thing we discuss. Though I don’t feel I need appreciation, it really is nice to have it, not so much to stroke my ego – I’m a little too jaded to be impressed with praise or disappointed with criticism – but because recommedations help my income. So, yes, appreciation is important. It’s important to my business. Without reader appreciation I don’t sell so many books and without client appreciation I don’t get so many editing clients.  In particular my online business needs written recommendations so others can see them, which is why I was pleased to find this recommendation in my inbox today:

“I initially contacted Tahlia and asked her to appraise my novel. She did a fantastic job for a modest charge. I then asked her to edit the book, and that turned out to be a more than satisfying experience. Tahlia was a pleasure to work with. She seemed to be brutally honest when need be, and she helped me see what I’d written in a different light. I think she improved my work greatly.

I would work with her again and happily recommend her to others.”
